The coming of age, becoming a man.
Our society is fucked.
Men are losing their identity, losing what it means to be masculine.
I’m 23 and I’m learning from a book what it means to be a freaking man, and the role we are supposed to play.
It’s hard, women are gaining more power. Gaining the power that men traditionally have. Guys, instead of rising to the challenge like a man, are becoming whingey, whiney an feeling like they NEED a woman in order to be a man. This is wrong.
I used to be this way. I used to think that the measure of myself as a man was the woman I had. Consequently I didn’t get any.
You see, this belief makes you ‘nice’, a people pleaser. This trait is feminine. In essence men are becoming women and women hate it.
To be a man you have to realize your power. You have to have control and direction in your life. You must have something to love by, a code of honor. You must define who you are, and who you want to be. Masculine must be separate from feminine.
That’s right, in order to become a man, FORGET WOMEN. You must have women in your life, but don’t let them be the measure of who you are. Do not EVER be as much as the woman you’re with. She will hate you, despise you, and fuck with your head.
A man must be his own man. A man must have his own beliefs, stand up for what he believes, and be able to analyze and turn in his favor any challenge that rises to meet him. He doesn’t give up, unless it’s to his advantage.
I never learnt any of this from my dad, from any role model. In fact my dad should have strived to be my role model. He was when I was young, but as I grew he relinquished this role. This is why our society is fucked. No man is willing to stand up and be a hero for their sons. Instead it’s tv and movie stars, sports stars. Are they who you want your kid to grow up as? A pompous douchebag?
